Distal Biceps Repair Rehab Program
PHASE 1: 0-4 WEEKS
Immobilization in a splint until 1 week post-op
ROM:
increase passive elbow ROM as tolerated once splint is discontinued
May perform active elbow extension and pronation
Avoid forceful, active elbow flexion and supination
Shoulder and wrist ROM as tolerated
PHASE 2: 4 WEEKS – 8 WEEKS
ROM:
increase as tolerated
May begin active elbow flexion and supination
Strengthening: begin rotator cuff isometrics
PHASE 3: 8 WEEKS – 3 MONTHS
ROM:
progress to full ROM as pain allows
Strengthening: formal elbow strengthening exercises as tolerated
PHASE 4: 3 MONTHS+
Begin sport-specific activities, increase joint velocity of motion
Transition to home exercise program
